The Drop: Week of August 3, 2026

Welcome to The Drop, Level Up Times' weekly release calendar where we wade through the coming week in gaming to help you decide what's worth checking out.

After last week's drop on Halo, it's time for things to calm down a little, but there's still stuff to play! This week sees Pokémon creator Game Freak step beyond their comfort zone into the wide world of action RPGs. Sony takes a swing at the FGC, and let's all take a Big Walk across an Australian-inspired bushland.

Beast of Reincarnation

Tuesday, August 4 - PC, PS5, Xbox Series - Day One on Game Pass

Look, if the end times really do come for us, there's no-one I'd rather spend it with than my best friend in the world, my dog Alfie.

In Pokémon-creator Game Freak's first big title in a while, Beast of Reincarnation is a post-apocalyptic action RPG where you play as Emma, a shunned outcast, and Koo, her canine companion, across Japan in the year 4026. The game has a hybrid combat system where you give Koo commands to fight against weird and wonderful-looking enemies.

The game's out tomorrow, and for those with Xbox Game Pass, it'll launch on the subscription service simultaneously.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Friday, August 7 - PC, PS5

Developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony, this appears to be a big swing at the FGC. As the name would imply, it's a Marvel-based 4v4 tag-team fighting game with 20 characters at launch, including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Doctor Doom, Deadpool and Ghost Rider. Some DLC has already been unveiled, with Phoenix Cyclops joining later this year.

It's out early Friday morning in Australia as part of a global launch, but there's talk the game has already broken street date. Let's hope Sony's servers don't fall apart like they did during last week's beta.

Big Walk

Tuesday, August 4 - PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2

As usual, we love to showcase local talent. This week we've got a bit of a doozy: the developers of Untitled Goose Game, Melbourne-based House House is back with their next game: a cooperative walker across what appears to be a very Aussie-inspired bushland.

Out tomorrow, the game accommodates as few as 2 players or up to 12, and requires you all to work together to reach your destination, using a pretty novel take on proximity voice chat where your environment and distance matters for communication. The game supports crossplay so you can play with friends on other platforms, but you will definitely need actual friends (perhaps even ones you can depend on!) to play this game.

Thursday, August 6 - Nintendo Switch 2 (Digital)

This release of Lies of P brings the game to a Nintendo platform for the first time, and includes the 'Overture' prequel expansion. If you're a fan of physical media, you'll have to wait till October to get your hands on the Game-Key Card for this release.

Gunstoppable

Wednesday, August 5 - PC, Xbox Series

This looks like a fun, punchy little action game all about speed-based combat. Featuring heavy acrobatic movement like sliding, wall-running, grappling, and dodging, you'll have to upgrade your weapons to fight your way through hordes of robots to take down "billionaire bosses".

It's developed by a single ex-God of War developer and out on Wednesday on PC and Xbox Series. There's also a demo out now on Steam if you want to get a feel for the movement.

Final Fantasy XIV Online + Dawntrail Expansion on Switch 2

Tuesday, August 4 - Nintendo Switch 2 (Digital)

Final Fantasy XIV Online is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, alongside its most recent expansion, Dawntrail. A pretty nifty little MMO milestone for the platform, but the jury is currently out on how it'll perform.

Just a heads up for those of you looking to pick it up so you can take your characters on the go: Be aware, a Reddit post and subsequent community Q&A seems to reveal that the Switch 2 version will have its own subscription fee attached to it, even if you're already a paying subscriber (albeit at a lower rate). Reports indicate this was due to the negotiations needed to get the game playable without requiring a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
